Dog Waits Two Weeks at Car Crash Site for Family’s Return

In the woods at the side of a country highway, Kathy Wilkes-Myers ran into a starving Rottweiler. Kathy, who works at an animal rescue, recognized that the dog was lost, and not a stray.

“I could just tell right away she was somebody’s baby. She just didn’t act like a stray dog to me,” she told CBS News.

Near where Kathy found the dog, she discovered toothbrushes, a comb, and other personal items. She snapped a photo and gathered up the stuff, hoping it would provide a clue to the dog’s story.

Sure enough, amongst the items were a candle with the name Michelle written on it, and a notebook with car insurance information inside. Kathy called the phone number hoping the agent would be able to identify the dog’s family with the little information to go on, and she struck gold.

After a bad rollover car accident, Ella had been flung from the car, and rescue workers had been unable to find her. The Kelley family mourned the loss of their pet—but Ella had survived, and had been making nests of her family’s personal items, filled with their familiar scent, as she awaited their return.

Fortunately, Ella has now been reunited with her pack.

Dogs amaze us everyday with their devotion, and this story is no exception. No wonder the Rottweiler makes our list of most loyal dog breeds!
